Lines and Angles

  • Acute angle: less than 90°
  • Right angle: exactly 90°
  • Obtuse angle: between 90° and 180°
  • Straight angle: exactly 180°
  • Reflex angle: between 180° and 360°

Angle Facts

  • Angles on a straight line add up to 180°
  • Angles at a point add up to 360°
  • Vertically opposite angles are equal
  • Alternate angles (Z-angles) are equal
  • Co-interior angles add up to 180°

Triangles

The angles in any triangle add up to 180°.

TypeProperties
EquilateralAll sides equal, all angles = 60°
IsoscelesTwo sides equal, two base angles equal
ScaleneNo sides equal, no angles equal
Right-angledOne angle = 90°

Pythagoras Theorem

In a right-angled triangle: a² + b² = c² where c is the hypotenuse (longest side).

If a = 3 and b = 4: c² = 9 + 16 = 25, so c = 5

Question 1 of 5
The angles of a triangle are 50°, 70°, and x. Find x.
50 + 70 + x = 180. x = 180 − 120 = 60°.
Question 2 of 5
What is the hypotenuse of a right triangle with legs 5 and 12?
c² = 5² + 12² = 25 + 144 = 169. c = √169 = 13.
Question 3 of 5
An equilateral triangle has all angles equal to:
Equilateral triangle: all 3 angles are equal and sum to 180°. 180÷3 = 60°.
Question 4 of 5
Two angles on a straight line are x and 2x. Find x.
x + 2x = 180°. 3x = 180°. x = 60°.
Question 5 of 5
What type of triangle has exactly two equal sides?
An isosceles triangle has exactly two equal sides and two equal base angles.
