What is Technology?
Technology is the application of scientific knowledge to solve human problems and improve lives. It involves using tools, materials, skills, and knowledge to design and create products.
The Technological Process
- Identify the problem
- Gather information
- Generate ideas/solutions
- Choose the best solution
- Build/make a prototype
- Test and evaluate
- Communicate results
Technical Drawing
Technical drawing (engineering drawing) is the language of designers and engineers. It uses standard symbols, lines, and scales to communicate how objects are built.
Types of Drawing
| Type | Description |
|---|---|
| Freehand sketch | Quick, rough drawing without instruments |
| Orthographic projection | Shows front, side, and top views (2D) |
| Isometric drawing | 3D-looking drawing on a grid |
| Perspective drawing | Shows depth as the eye sees it |
Drawing Instruments
- Drawing board and T-square
- Set squares (45° and 60°/30°)
- Compass and dividers
- Protractor
- Drawing pencils (HB, 2H)
Types of Lines in Technical Drawing
- Continuous thick: visible outlines
- Continuous thin: dimensions, leader lines
- Dashed: hidden edges
- Chain dot: centre lines
